Grapes: 100% Barbera d’Alba

Farming: Biodynamic

Notes: The “Donna Elena” is named after Giovanna’s sister Elena, who was born in Buenos Aires.

Vinification: Fermented by indigenous yeasts in stainless steel vats. 10/12 days of skin contact. Malolactic fermentation completed.

Aging: Stainless steel and large Slavonian Oak casks for 20 months and last 12 months in the bottle.

Tasting notes: Ruby/garnet red color, fruits under alcohol notes like cherries, sour cherries and plums. Slightly spiced, cannella and cloves notes. Cacao. Well integrated tannins. Balanced and elegant.

AWARDS: WINE ADVOCATE – 87/89 points ( The 2016 Barbera d’Alba Superiore Donna Elena, tasted from barrel, is a succulent and overripe expression that is woven throughout with odd, contrasting tones of sweetness and sourness. It is behaving awkwardly, at least at this early point in the wine’s life. Some 5,400 bottles were made )
